In 1987 Alexander MacDonald and Roland Gallery were developing a new sound for the Spanish guitar using two standard guitars and a specially designed bass instrument. the two had met whilst working together in the English Guitar Quartet. Vincent Lindsay-Clark was invited to make up the group that become known as the Segovia Trio, honouring the memory of the great Spanish maestro, Andres Segovia.
